Welcoming a new bundle of joy is one of the most exciting moments a family can experience. Preparing and planning for the new addition can be stressful, and it can be easy to forget certain essential things that could make life much easier on everyone involved.

Baby’s Room:

A great way to lead up to the big day is by decorating and furnishing the baby’s room. If it is the first child, it is even more exciting to choose color schemes and themes. Beware not to overcrowd the nursery with unnecessary clutter. Try to keep the furniture to the very basics, such as the crib, changing table, rocking chair or armchair, and some storage space.

Hospital Bag:

If you are having your baby at the hospital, it is a good idea to keep a packed bag near the door for easy access when the time comes to rush off for delivery. Include a change of comfortable clothes, such as a sweat suit or pajamas, comfortable shoes or slippers, toiletries, and a phone charger, as well as clothes, diapers, and a blanket for the baby. Packing some dry snacks and bottled water might be a good idea too.

Precooked Food:

After the baby arrives, time seems to pass by faster, and there are plenty of things to keep you busy. Preparing easy-to-put-together meals before the big day is a great idea. You can also freeze leftovers for an easy heat and eat meal. Accepting help from family members or close friends is also not a bad idea.

Snap Memories:

Keep a smart phone or digital camera nearby for the delivery and the beautiful first moments that you will live with your baby. From the first breath on earth to the first giggle and the first steps, documenting memories is something you will definitely not want to miss out on.

Your Bedroom:

It is very important to maintain you and your partner’s own space and privacy, even after welcoming your new baby into  your lives and family. Try to keep baby toys and clothes out of your room, and keep this space associated with intimacy and the love that you share with your partner, aside from your magnificent joys of parenthood.
